“Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish”

Hello! Hope you had a great day.

My work day was business as usual and then I headed to the gym armed with a People magazine (only the deep reading for this girl), and my Kindle with one thought in mind:

8 miles or bust.

My legs were a little sore from Pilates + Running last night and I was beyond tired in general, but once I got on the dreadmill, my legs just took over. I’m pretty sure they had as little desire to be there as I did and we were just in a general agreement to finish the workout as soon as possible.

I was pretty pleased ecstatic that I ran the entire 8 miles at an 8:57 pace. And that I now know everything there is to know about child beauty pageants. (And am thoroughly disturbed because of it.)

These girls are 4-6 years old. I don’t think I’ve ever had that amount of makeup on my face.

I was in soccer cleats at age 6, these girls have fake teeth and hair.

The low point in the run  was actually not when I was reading about how little Paisley’s mom dressed her up like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman (over-the-knee-boots and all) but when a man got on the treadmill next to me (keep in mind the other 22 treadmills were completely available) and proceeded to stink up the joint.

We’re talking that really gross, moldy, wet shoe smell… not just your typical BO odor here.

Every breath I took was like breathing in someone’s sweaty gym socks. But if I had stopped my treadmill, moved and then re-started it would have been glaringly obvious that he smelled like he hadn’t done laundry since 2004.

And the real reason – my run would have been prolonged by a good 3-4 minutes. I have priorities.

Do you ever run into this problem? Do you grin (grimace) and bear it? Or do you move?

**********

As soon as I got home, boyfriend and I headed to his basketball game. As they were warming up I was scrolling through my iPhone when I pulled up CNN.com and saw that the main headline was: “Apple Founder Steve Jobs Has Died”.

As I read the article (and several accompanying it), I really thought about just how much Steve has given us (as in the world) and what a huge influence he has on the way we live, work, and play. It’s pretty extraordinary.

“Steve was among the greatest of American innovators – brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it.”

The world lost an exceptional person today.  RIP Steve, you truly changed the world.

  1. so sad..he really did change the world we live in..he was incredibly innovative and talented. its crazy u can have all the money in the world and still not have ur health…so sad.

  2. I used to love watching Toddlers & Tiaras because Mackinzie cracks me up, but I had to stop watching- what those moms do their poor little girls is horrible. And so sad about Steve Jobs too 😦 I think it’s really amazing that he seemed to “hold on” until after the Apple announcement was over. Interesting.

  3. I just can’t handle smells like that. I have a really sensitive nose, so I think it would be a little bit of hell for me. I’d definitely move. I mean, he’s oblivious to his own smell so he’d likely be oblivious that you were moving because he stunk. Nasty! But good for you for finishing. You’re more woman than I am!

  4. Oh my God, one time I was watching Toddlers and Tiaras (that’s actually a lie, it was a commercial) and I found myself saying “I should get my makeup done like that for the wedding I’m in this weekend” BAAHAHAHAHAH!!!! You know there’s a problem WHEN…
