25 Questions – Holiday Style

It’s almost FRIDAY! Which means that Christmas is almost ONE WEEK away! 🙂 Tomorrow night is my company’s Holiday party, and when I say they spare absolutely no expense… it’s not even close to an exaggeration. We wait all year for the food, drinks and entertainment that await us!

To make it feel even more like the Holiday Season, boyfriend came home from work with a DELICIOUS pumpkin loaf made by a very talented chef/baker. (coughJaimecough). I know what I’m slicing up and having for breakfast tomorrow.

I’ve seen this survey on a number of blogs today, so I thought I’d join in – besides, I really enjoy talking about Christmas.

25 Questions: Holiday Style

  • Eggnog or hot chocolate?

Hot chocolate all the way. I’ve actually never tried eggnog (is that weird?) and I really have no desire too. I like my treats to be covered in (or made out of entirely) chocolate, and eggnog doesn’t really fit the bill. It sort of just grosses me out.

  • Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?

Santa always wraps presents. And sometimes even leaves handwritten notes. That look suspiciously close to my dad’s handwriting.

  • Colored lights on tree/house or white?

I love Christmas lights, and I love them in any color. Solid or blinking. Icicles or regular. But if I absolutely must choose – white lights – it makes it look like snow, and so beautiful.

  • Do you hang mistletoe?

Nope. I also read somewhere that it’s poisonous, and since I’m a hypochondriac, I would be paranoid for a solid month that it somehow fell, got into our food, and was ingested.

  • When do you hang your decorations up?

If I had my way, October. But I wait until the weekend after Thanksgiving. Christmas music however is an entirely different story. That happens around my Birthday (mid-November).

  • What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?

My mom makes this amazing cheesy, baked tortellini that I will go back for 5th’s of, and on Christmas morning we always have this amazing homemade sour cream coffee cake that I may or may not scrape the crumbly cinnamon topping off of.

  • Favorite holiday memory as a child?

My younger brother and I would always camp out in our bonus room in our sleeping bags on Christmas Eve so that we made sure we got the first view of the tree in the morning together. Also – setting up  my Snow Babies display! (I get a new one every year from my mom and the display grows and grows).

  • What is on your Christmas wish list?

It’s black, yellow or brown, furry, has 4 legs, and rhymes with schrambador schmetreiver.

  • Do you open gifts on Christmas Eve?

We were always allowed to pick one gift to open on Christmas Eve but I always refused – I loved saving them for Christmas morning!

  • How do you decorate your Christmas tree?

There is no rhyme, reason or theme. I love putting up all of our ornaments and remembering where/when we got them and smiling at the fun memories.

  • Snow? Love it or dread it?

LOVE IT. But I also only get to see it a couple of times a year (when we go snowboarding), so I absolutely revel in it.

  • Real tree or fake tree?

Neutral – I LOVE the smell of real trees, and insist on my parents always getting a real tree. But seeing as how I don’t want to be responsible for burning our entire apartment building down – boyfriend and I stick to a fake tree for the time being.

  • Do you remember your favorite gift?

I’m so happy at every gift I receive (seriously, it’s really cheesy and somewhat lame), because someone cared enough to think of me when picking it out.

  • What’s the most important thing about Christmas for you?

Spending time with family and friends and all of our traditions.

  • What is your favorite holiday dessert?

Anything involving chocolate of some kind. Also Christmas cookies. Because really, why not?

  • What is your favorite tradition?

I feel like everything leading up to Christmas is part of some tradition – and I love creating new traditions each and every year.

  • What tops your tree?

A star.

  • Do you prefer giving or receiving?

I love to give gifts because I love picking things out for people. But let’s be honest here, I do also like receiving 🙂

  • What is your favorite Christmas song?

This year anything by MIchael Buble, but all time? I Don’t Want To Spend One More Christmas Without You – Nsync and This Gift – 98 Degrees. Also The Christmas Song and The First Noel. OK and Mariah Carey “All I want for Christmas Is You” (but I really like the Love Actually version the best).

  • Candy canes, yuck or yum?

Impartial – I never eat them, but I’m not strongly against them like I am candy corn.

  • Favorite Christmas movie?

Home Alone, Elf, Love Actually, The Holiday. Watching all 4 in one day is my idea of a perfect Holiday season day.

  • What do you leave for Santa?

Cookies and milk for santa, carrots and apple slices for the reindeer. (Because not everyone likes carrot sticks – I never did.)

  • Do you have a Christmas morning tradition?

Eating Sour Cream Coffee Cake and Orange Juice/Coffee, while we open presents. Then a big breakfast of eggs, bacon, etc and “playing” with the new “toys”.

  • Do you prefer to shop on-line or at the mall?

Online if I can help it – I don’t love the crowds, and I love them even less in Union Square! I try to hit Union Square on off days or times (aka the evening.)

  • Christmas letter or Christmas card?

Christmas card! Preferably with a puppy in some type of Christmas gimmick on the front. (Like our cards this year.)

Pick as many questions as your want to answer!

  1. I’ve been telling my man that we *have* to watch Love Actually soon . . . it’s hands down my favorite holiday movie. One year a friend gave me the Love Actually DVD for Christmas. Great gift because it was thoughtful — those are always my favorite gifts to give and receive. 🙂 And I hope you get the furry gift you’re hoping for 🙂

  2. Love this! Most of your traditions and likes are very similar to mine 🙂 Have a great weekend lady! A little puppy has been on my bday and Christmas list… but the apt. doesn’t allow dogs 😦

    • Ugh mine either! Although the people down the hall have a Westie that I’m pretty sure everyone knows about! A 70-pound Labrador is totally acceptable in a one-bedroom apartment right? Have a wonderful weekend!
